Beaver County River Regatta

Posted by: kyle | Comments (0)

The Wakeboard Pittsburgh Crew will be preforming in the Beaver County River Regatta for the third straight year on August 15th and 16th, 2009.  We always are happy to participate in an event were we get to demonstrate the sport of wakeboarding in front of a large crowd.  Not to mention that the area is a No Wake zone with pristine water and they let me do whatever I want.  Last year I tried to jump wake to wake over a Jet Ski!  Check out the other highlights from last years show in the photo gallery below.

If you have any antics or ideas for this years show, hit us up at www.wakeboardpittsburgh.com/contact-us.  Also, make sure to stop by and say Hi.  There will be 12 of us rocking out all weekend on the Malibu Wakesetter and I will be the guy with the Slingshot Wakeboard Gear.

The Beaver County River Regatta in Bridgewater, PA offers events for kids and adults of all ages: Children’s Fishing Derby, Ducky Derby Race, The Anything That Floats Contest , along with the Wing Eating Contest, Tons of Food Vendors, and live Entertainment by the Top Bands in the area. Extreme Drag Boat Racing, Water Sports, Water-Ski Shows, Children’s Activities, and Zambelli Fireworks are only some of the reasons to attend.

Testing the Hyperlite Swell

Posted by: kyle | Comments (1)

This past weekend, a bunch of us got to demo the brand new Hyperlite Swell wakesurf board.  This “almost” symmetrical board is very short at 4′3″ and very wide at 21″.  On the water, the Swell is a monster with its speed being its greatest attribute.  Fairly loose with only one 1.1″ fin, proper edging is needed to get the board to turn, but it is extremely responsive when you put pressure on the rails.  If you are an intermediate/advanced rider looking for a board that will test your skills and take you to the next level, then I highly recommend this board.

Check out the photos below.

New Jersey Wakefest

Posted by: kyle | Comments (0)

The 2009 New Jersey Wakefest was this past Saturday.  A little bit of rain did not stop over 200 people from showing up, making the festival one of the biggest wakeboard events in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Thanks to Kyle and Doug for taking me out on their X-Star for a set.  Also thanks to the whole www.wakeboardnj.com crew for putting on one heck of an event.

See below for some of the pictures from the event.  For all of the pictures, check out www.wakeboardpittsburgh.com/photo

I have also placed all of the pictures (238) from the event in the new photo gallery – www.wakeboardpittsburgh.com/photo  Feel free to take any of the pictures for your personal use.  If you need a picture bigger than the 800 pixels I posted on the web, send me an email

Trip to Smith Mountain Lake

Posted by: kyle | Comments (0)

This past weekend, the Wakeboard Pittsburgh crew took a trip down to Smith Mountain Lake, VA.  We went down to my buddies lake house, where he has an X-Star and three jet skis.  The water was about 60 degrees, which was warm for us because our rivers back home are still below 50 degrees.

On Saturday, I forgot my camera on the shore, but we all did a little wakesurfing & wakeboarding on our way to check out the WakeNSkate Boardshop.  Half way through his set, David decided to go for a massive raley.  I say massive because I was driving the boat, and he went out of the view of my mirror.  From what I could tell, it looked like he landed the trick and then one second later, David crashed like a load of bricks.  It ended up that he broke his board in half when he landed (See the picture below).  Other highlights included Jason trying Wakesurfing for the first time.

Sidenote: If you are ever in the Smith Mountain Lake area, I highly recomend you check out the WakeNSkate Boardshop.  The staff is nice and friendly, and they have a TON of new product to look at.  Farrah was looking for a new life jacket, and she eventually bought the Billabong Modernizm Vest.  Nikki also bought a O’Neill Gooru Comp Vest that they had on the clearance rack for 50% off (talk about a steal).

On the way home everyone took a set except me, both of my ankles are still sprained from a bad fall last weekend.  David, being the local, showed us some cool spots to ride.  Smith Mountain Lake has a ton of deep coves that have excellent wind protection and glassy water.

Saturday night included a three mile late night boat trip to the local bar.  It was still about 75 degrees and the sky was clear with a full moon.  I can’t think of a better way to roll into a bar!  We had a great time sitting on the outside deck drinking and talking with the locals.

Sunday’s weather was not as nice, but the water was glass so we decided to man up and go for it.  I remembered my camera this time, but the light rain made shooting a little bit challenging.  Check out the photos below.  Sorry I did not get any shots of David, but I was driving the boat and no one wanted to shoot with my camera in the rain.

Overall, the trip was a lot of fun.  Thanks to David for driving us down there and giving us a place to stay!

On Sunday, April 19th, the first wakeboard and wakeskate rail jam of the season happened on the Potomac River in Harpers Ferry, WV.  Unfortunatly, we were unable to make the event, but it looked awesome.  They had Max’s kicker and Mike’s huge rainbow slider and were pulled by the Sea Doo Wake Edition.  Pretty good for a wakeboard event in April.  Props to everyone who went out in the cold water and enjoyed some early season wakeboarding.

Check out the 540 club’s website for more pictures, video and the results.

Thanks to Katherine of the Xtreme East Coast Tour for the pictures:
